General Information
The University of Florida Ice Hockey team competes in Division III nationally in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The team was founded in 1996 and competed in College Hockey South (CHS) until it disbanded in 2004.
The team is now a member of the Southeastern Collegiate Hockey Conference (SECHC), founded in 2008.
The season runs from late September until March. It typically consists of 21 - 25 games played throughout the southeast United States.
All home games and practices are held at Jacksonville Ice & Sportsplex in Jacksonville, FL. The rink is about an hour and 15 minutes from Gainesville.
Along with their league schedule, the Gators also face off against other teams such as Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida Atlantic University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida State University, Georgia Tech, Tulane, among others.
The SECHC is broken down into two divisions, the East and West. The East is comprised of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. The West is made up of LSU, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.
Tradition
The Gators play the University of Georgia the Friday night preceding the FL/GA football game every year in late October.
Every weekend before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day the Gators play in front of a 6,000 spectator audience in the Savannah Hockey Classic. The Gators face Georgia the first night and Florida State the second night.
